1984 Jeep J20 three-quarter ton Camper Special w/ Pioneer trim package
This 1984 Jeep J20 three-quarter ton Camper Special w/ Pioneer trim package is a true Arizona survivor (only 821 J20's were built in-'84) it spent the first 9 years and 71k miles of it's life in AZ, the original owner retired and relocated to the Seattle, WA area where the truck resided until I purchased it in August 2006 with 118k miles on the clock and drove it over 3k miles cross country to lower Alabama. This truck is incredibly strong, the only time I had to downshift from 4th to 3rd gear on an uphill grade between Seattle and Mobile, AL was at the 10,000 ft plus elevation at Vail Pass, CO. 26k miles later I would not hesitate to make the return trip with far more confidence in the truck than when it was purchased. The "Y" code in the VIN# denotes the 8400 lb GVW rating and is equipped with a 360ci V-8, an indestructible Borg Warner T-18 4spd manual transmission with the super low 6. something ? to 1 unsynchronized first gear(was originally a TF727 automatic and was converted to the '79 manual trans by the previous owner), an NP 208 part time transfer case, a full floating Dana 60 rear end and a HD Dana 44 front both with 3.73:1 ring and pinions. During the last 3-1/2 years the following items have been repaired or replaced: complete dual exhaust, alternator, rebuilt carb, fuel pump, starter, timing gear & chain, distributor drive gears, vacuum lines, front brake pads & hoses, rear u-joints and drive shaft yokes, radiator(rodded out), coolant hoses, side window weatherstripping, new windshield, rubber fuel supply lines, fuel tank was recently removed and professionally flushed, front shocks, electric trailer brake controller, window tint, center armrest recovered, new headliner, the cruise control, tilt wheel and AC all work, I'm sure there is more that's slipped my mind, as you can see this truck was maintained with the intention of long term ownership not a quick and profitable sale, unfortunately a growing family and a shrinking economy are putting it on the selling block, a truly difficult decision that I know I will regret. I will be glad to answer any questions accurately and truthfully. There is an aluminum bed topper not presently on the truck that is included in the sale. The truck has no rust perforation, there are some small blisters showing up thru the paint (see photos)which I try to stay on top of with POR-15 and matching touch up paint, the clearcoat is failing on some of the blue painted areas as well (typical to most metallic coatings of- this era). interior is in good shape with some seam splits on the drivers seat. This truck's suspension is not for the timid or weak of heart, it was built to haul a 4000 lb camper unit and just about anything else that will fit in an 8ft truck bed, but unladen the ride is harsh, whereas with a dozen or more sacks of cement at the tailgate it Cadillacs right along. The asking price is $8000 OBO, the truck is sold as-is, I'm not portraying it as a showroom perfect specimen, but for what it is, and that would be a solid unrestored but well maintained and preserved 26 year old truck with approximately 143k miles. I will consider any whole or partial trade plus cash for a 8 or 9 passenger 3/4 ton 4wd Suburban, Yukon XL w/7.4/8.1L V8 or Ford Excursion w/ V10 in equal or better condition than the truck.
